Back
in 2003, I would regularly pick up the Hollywood Reporter
and the Drama-Logue to peruse the latest films productions
and see if there were any interesting projects I could
submit my music to. On this particular occasion, I came
across a listing for an "Untitled Ramzi Abed Project."
I put together a package; dropped it in the mail, and
within two weeks I was in the back room of the Parlour
Room in Santa Monica meeting with Ramzi, David
J from Bauhaus/Love & Rockets, and John
Neff (David Lynch's sound designer and main
engineer) to discuss my involvement in this new film
about the Black Dahlia.
Generally, things don't usually happen this way. Demos
usually end up in a big pile on a directors' desk and
the director ends up using a friend to compose the music
anyway, but Ramzi isn't one to do things the usual
way. He relies on a relentless intuition coupled with
a "By Any Means Necessary" focus that I have
witnessed over the last 5 years as he has struggled
to complete this film. These are the kind of people
that I naturally gravitate towards, even if I disagree
with they're doing! Perhaps Ramzi saw the same type
of determination in me and used his gut when he asked
me to be orchestrator and co-composer with David J?
So here we are, 5 years after our initial meeting, celebrating
the official world-wide release of "The Devil's
Muse" on DVD with a special feature on my online
radio show. This program originally aired on October
1, 2008 and it will remain archived here for people
to listen to in the future.
Congratulations to Ramzi on his cinematic achievement!
Until the next one...
