THE ANTHOLOGY OF INFECTION, VOLUME TWO
Ego Plum's Anthology of Infection follows in the crooked footsteps of past and present innovaters like Raymond Scott, Carl Stalling, Frank Zappa, Danny Elfman and Mark Mothersbaugh who, to put it simply, were the people who made it cool for punks to listen to instrumental music. Thematically, the second chapter of the Anthology of Infection series pays tribute to infantilism, Oksana Baiul, amputees, Octoroons (a slavery-era term for one who was 1/8th black), Salvador Dali and cannibal chimpanzees among other disturbing non-sequiturs. Musically, the melodies, instruments, and rhythms create an equally bizarre world of wrong notes in all the right places, haunting beauty and unsettling, frantic melodies.

Songs like "Return of Cannibal Chimp" offer a raw and spontaneous dimension to the album: recorded with the full glory of first-take mistakes, frantic left-handed drumming, high-anxiety guitars and low-fidelity analog sounds. Songs like, "Sonitus Insolitus" and "The Man Baby" hearken back to the frightening carnival-esque tone of Plum's first CD. Whereas songs like "The Prettiest Boy in the World" demonstrate Heir Plum's ability to construct complex and classically-styled counterpoint melodies. As with his first CD, Ego Plum also includes songs that were rejected by directors for film projects (The song "Deletia" for the 1998 film Jawbreaker).

The crown jewel of the album, "The Day the Clown Cried," was written as the theoretical theme to the controversial and unreleased and unscored 1972 film of the same title directed by (and starring) Jerry Lewis. In this film, Jerry plays a Nazi clown in a German concentration camp who uses his merry pranks to lure unsuspecting children into gas chambers. Ego Plum's original composition fits the disturbing premise so well that one would assume he was one of the handful of individuals who have actually seen the film.

THE ANTHOLOGY OF INFECTION, VOLUME ONE
Ego Plum's first CD which was released in 1997 offers everything from low-fidelity 4-track recordings to fully computer-sequenced compositions that span from Ego Plum's first attempts at music at age 15 to his first film score for the independent Conrad Brook's film "Blood Slaves of the Vampire Wolf" which he completed at the tender age of 21. The innocence of youth is ever-present in these 24 whimsical yet dark recordings which feature some of Plum's greatest musical achievements such as "Le Cirque Macabre" and "Ebola Music," which have presently been removed from their midi-sequenced instrumentation and re-arranged for live performance (and future recording) by the 11-piece Ebola Music Orchestra.

As it was so dramatically explained on the 1997 press release: "All that gives you that little twitch can now be found on one compact disc. Only Ego Plum can create feelings of uneasyness and discomfort through instrumental music. This is the music that plays in the minds of traumatized children everywhere! It's cartoon-esque instrumental music full ofrightening child-like melodies, abstract rhythms, dissonant chords, and subliminal messages! It's the muzak of the mentally disturbed and the elevator music of the apocalypse!
A collection of twenty four instrumental peices written between 1990-1997 including selections from computer-animated, stop-motion, and live-action films and commercials."

How serious is that?

THIS IS A CLAVIVOX

Raymond Scott patented his synthesizer invention called the Clavivox in 1956. The instrument can glide from any note to any other note, over it's 3-octave keyboard, without a break. It can also create staccato attacks, allow on/off vibrato toggling, and many other effects.
